Specialty pharmacy and drug infusion company BioTek reMEDys, in honor of August being International Autoinflammatory Awareness Month, is calling for “enhanced education and awareness” around these types of diseases.
BioTek points to specific examples, including PAPA (Pyogenic Arthritis, Pyoderma gangrenosum and Acne), an autoinflammatory disease causing painful flares of arthritis, poorly healing skin ulcers, and/or severe cystic acne.
It also talks about CRMO (Chronic Recurrent Multifocal Osteomyelitis), an autoinflammatory disease causing pain and damage in bones throughout the body.
BioTek said in a release that it “is well-positioned to help patients with these conditions,” as a little self-promotion. It also wants to get the message out more broadly about autoinflammatory conditions and treatments as part of an education and awareness push.
“Because many autoimmune conditions are statistically rare, they can often be misdiagnosed and we hope to help shine a light on the importance of education about these conditions,” said Chaitanya Gadde, CEO and founder of BioTek reMEDys, in a statement.
“Treatments for autoinflammatory diseases are typically very effective and can involve medications that reduce inflammation or suppress the immune system to alleviate symptoms. The diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune disorders can be very complex, requiring knowledgeable and dedicated staff to help provide guidance and counseling to patients during a challenging time in their lives.”
This is not BioTek’s first awareness rodeo. In March, the company also tapped Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month as an opportunity to drive change, piggybacking on the national event to call for awareness of safe medication use in patients with the conditions.
